gps4cam App Reviews
Outstanding, reliable app
I’ve used GPS4CAM for a few years now. It’s never failed me. Solid, reliable, easy to use.
Difficult to believe ...
… but I gave it a trial. And I was impressed by the results. Geotagging made easy and very affordable!
Crash at launch on snow leopard 10.6.8
crash immediatly at launch on Snow Leopard so its mpossible to use! Java 6 SE installed by system..no more java update available for SL
Works fine. Could look a bit more fancy…but it really works precise ! You dont need any Fancy GPS Gear on your Camera just the App on your Mobile and this App here.
So Ok, let me star that this app is fantastic when it works. It works totally seamlessly, it auto-tags (almost) all photos during the trip, again, when it works. When it does not work, it’s a huge pain. And there is no reasonable explanation whatsover to say why it is not working. Sometimes I just kept repeating the same thing, restarting the app, trying like 10 times and it finally worked. Sometimes I exported the trip to Lightroom and just worked finally. And I emailed the customer support to see if they can give me any advice about why it’s NOT working - never heard back. So, would I recommend this paid app? Perhaps no.
I’ve been using this app for a few years now and it always works as expected.. Using the iOS app and this desktop tool works better than the Canon GPS units that fit my cameras. Not to mention it’s way cheaper.
Works great! Very easy and effective, very precise!
I use this with my Sony nex-5n. It works wonderfully on adventure trips where I want to capture my location along with the pix.
To use the gps4cam geo tagging system, gps4cam Desktop Software is needed. This Desktop software requires Legacy Java 6 SE to be loaded. This job will not download or work on Macs latest Yosemite operating system. Since I have a relatively new Mac with the latest Yosemite operating system, Near as I can tell, I am out of luck and cannot use gps4cam to Geo tag my photos.
When I first launched it in Yosemite, it told me that it needed to install Java, that took a few seconds and it now works just fine. It is a very rudimentary app, but does exactly what it promises.Of course, you need the ios app to actually do anything with this, but I do recommend this as an easy and very inexpensive way to geotag with any digital camera.
I have Yosemite. I’m not sure if that’s the problem, but it seems others have had issues with this app and Yosemite. I have been communicating with support, but haven’t recieved any useful help. I give it one star mainly because support thus far is awful.
I love using this app to geotag photos from when I am out and about. I would love a handy feature that will allow it to geotag a set of photos with a preset though. I take photos at home often, and don’t run the phone app. Would be nice to just be able to tag them all with my home GPS quickly.
This app - which does not need a JRE - does everything it claims. And does it perfectly, time after time after time. That it reads the QR code image (trim in Preview if it isn’t at first fully recognized) generated at the end of the corresponding iOS app operation/session seems like magic. To get such reliability and accuracy so seamlessly is asking a lot. But it does it perfectly every time. Simple, effective geotagging - and timestamp correction; and full, clean integration with HoudahGeo etc. (Tech) support is quick and friendly. Really this is the way to do this kind of thing.
